Dairy Costings
Dairy Costings are a vital part of dairy herd management, allowing some benchmarking, tracking of progress and basic financial calculations. CARA can provide dairy costings, either as a stand alone bureau service, or linked to a full dairy and farm consultancy service.
Results To December 2007
Average Yield Per Cow: 7,168 litres
Average Feed Rate: 0.27 kilos per litre
Average Milk Price: 17.64 pence per litre
Average Margin: 12.06 pence per litre
These results represent average results for dairy farms based in South and West Wales. There are a few spring calving tyoe herds in the sample, and one or two high input high output herds.
From these results the following remarks can be made:
- Average yield per cow in the sample of 7,168 litres, which is around the National average
- Yield from forage for the sample would be 2,521 litres per annum, or 7 litres per day
- A feed cost per litre of 4.05 pence would be lower than the national average
